Growing up near an air base, I have always been fascinated by aircraft of all kinds. My father and I would sit on the porch, waiting for the next plane to pass on our roof. The roar of the plane’s engine, a thunderous roar, made our roof shake with the noise.
I was drawn to aviation long before I learned to ride a bicycle. Becoming a pilot was one of my childhood dreams, but luckily, I worked as a banker instead. Despite this, my love for aviation has never faded. I did what aspiring pilots my age would have done instead of actual flying: I started building and collecting airplane models.
My collection has grown significantly over the years and I am here to share with you some of the important lessons I have learned in expanding a scale model collection. แอพพลิเคชั่นเว็บพนัน
Identify your purpose.
As with many other hobbies, you need to find out why you want to build a collection of scale models. Do you want to simply exhibit the models at home? Or do you want to profit from your hobby? You could do both, but I suggest you identify your main goal to start a collection. That way, you don’t spend too much time or money on something you’ll drop in a matter of months.
Do your research.
Before you start buying pieces for your collection, take some time to browse books or the Internet to find out more about the models you want to buy. Although many collectors skip this process, researching your favorite aircraft could help them determine how accurate their models should be. Knowing the history behind the plane will allow you to better appreciate your model.
Know the type of material you want.
Scale model airplanes can be made of wood, plastic or metal. Some models feature a combination of these materials. If you are building the model yourself, you can purchase one of those plastic kits. These are great starting points if you want to hone your scale modeling skills.
Some people, like me, prefer pre-built models. I’m partial to wooden model airplanes simply because they look absolutely flawless, obviously depending on where you buy them. However, you can make your own wooden display pieces, but the process requires a lot of woodworking skills.
Determine the size or scale of the models.
Even if you’re not limited to just one aircraft model size, it’s a good idea to have a clear picture of how big or small you want your models to be. Collecting model aircraft takes time, effort and space, not to mention money. If you want to highlight your collection at home or in your office, I suggest you set up a dedicated space for models. At first, this may not be a problem, but as you grow your collection, you’ll need a larger area to hold them all.
Decide how much you are willing to spend.
Scale model airplanes can range from a couple of dollars to hundreds of dollars. Many times I find smaller models less expensive than larger and more detailed ones. This is a general observation. Again, it all depends on where you shop.
However, if you want a high quality model that will last for many years to come, be prepared to invest anywhere between $ 80 and $ 300. Hand carved models cost more due to the amount of time and effort spent building them. Wooden models make up a huge part of my collection simply because they are beautiful from every angle.
